The “Romanian fashion industry” island

There’s something very off about art and cultural industries in Romania. They somehow seem to keep their worlds at bay, not collaborating with each other. The film industry, the music industry, the fashion industry have their own set of rules, game-players and parties. To each its own and all that.

And while for some that’s worked out just fine, the same cannot be said about the fashion industry. Fashion designers in Romania have no representation what so ever. Their job description extends from the obvious to manager, stylist, producer, publicist, agent and who knows what else.

Romanian fashion designers need not stay on this stranded island called “the Romanian fashion industry”. They should get on board this eclectic artful party boat and let their work be seen more and better by the public.

With this is mind, we decided we wanted and could do something about that. Having done advertising and film before, it only seemed fitting to start doing fashion films for Romanian designer collections. Our first one was this one and this past October we did this other one (see below).

Lucian Broscatean, “Enclosed garden” fashion film

The next step was deciding whom to reach out to. Our thoughts instantly went to Lucian Broscatean, a young fashion designer from Cluj. We knew his work and were big fans of the geometrical shapes he creates. His Enclosed garden collection is a beautiful black and white set of structural fashion and was shown at Berlin Fashion Week in January 2011.

His work needed to be seen more and so his collection would be the one to be featured in our fashion film.

The shooting took place in Cluj, on this construction site, that felt really appropriate for the urban / rough / industrial feel of the clothes.

The film is made by Vlad Fenesan and Barna Nemethi, with the help of Oana Vasilache (styling), Simina Cheteleș (hair & make-up) and Fica B. (model). The music is made by up-and-comers Filles Du Calvaire, some boys you’ll be hearing more about in the future, we’re sure.
